Tubulaire reactor

Tubulaire reactor

Tubular reactors operate in a continuous flow mode, allowing reagents to flow in while products are efficiently removed. Renowned for their simplicity, these reactors are known by several names such as pipe reactors, packed-bed reactors, fixed-bed reactors, trickle-bed reactors, bubble-column reactors, and ebullating-bed reactors.

In a tubular reactor, single-phase flow can be either upward or downward, while two-phase flow includes co-current up-flow, counter-current (liquid down, gas up), or most commonly, co-current down-flow. Tubular reactors may feature a single wall and be heated with an external electric furnace or be jacketed for precise heating or cooling using a circulating heat transfer fluid. External furnaces are typically rigid, split-tube heaters.

Whether left empty for homogeneous reactions or packed with catalyst or solid particles for heterogeneous reactions, packed reactors require upper and lower supports to secure particles in place. Upper packing often incorporates inert material to function as a pre-heat section. Explore more about the fascinating realm of tubular reactors and their pivotal role in diverse industrial processes.
